Job Summary:

AECOM is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Buildings and Places team. The Buildings and Places team is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers architectural, engineering and project management services for construction projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to, federal, municipal, institutional, and transit facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

A key member of the mechanical design team, the Mechanical Engineer will:

* Provide conceptual design at the early stages of the project and develop the concept to high quality detailed design, co-ordinate with all disciplines;

* Design HVAC, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems;

* Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs (i.e. Carrier HAP);

* Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations;

* Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards;

* Working knowledge of the LEED rating system, or other green rating systems

* Write/ edit mechanical specifications;

* Occasional travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports.

* Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical audience.

* Comply with AECOM’s quality management system and perform Lead Verifier quality checks of assigned projects.

* Able to work independently or as part of a team.

* Participate in mentoring of junior engineers and designers on the team.

**Minimum Requirements**

Candidates must have at least a University degree + 4 years of relevant experience (or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education) to be considered for this position.

Equivalency of experience and/or education could be AA/AS (US) + 6 Years of relevant experience or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 6 Years of relevant experience or HS/GED + 8 Years of relevant experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**

* Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering

* Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario

* Experience in the Buildings Engineering Industry. 10 + Years of experience with local/Canadian clients a strong asset.

* Strong Consulting Industry background in Canada

* Experience with P3 / design build model of project delivery an asset

* Experience in large federal, municipal, or transit projects preferred

* In-depth knowledge of HVAC, Hydronic Systems, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems

* Experience with compressed air, fuel, and other service fluid piping systems an asset.

* Design knowledge of large-scale boiler/ chiller plants and distribution networks, district heating/ cooling, and co-generation systems an asset.

* Experience in Revit and Navisworks an asset.

* Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

* Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills (essential)

* Security Clearance: PWGSC/PSPC - Level II Secret Clearance preferred for Federal Project
